Good Friday

“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

These words of Jesus, spoken from the cross are as true for us today as for those who crucified Jesus 2,000 years ago.

When we harden our hearts toward the poor,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

When we waste precious resources,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

When we insist on justice for ourselves while casting judgment on others,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

When we are envious of others,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

When we insist on having our own way,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

In every way we have failed to love our neighbors as ourselves,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

In every way we have not loved you with our whole heart,

Father forgive us for we know not what we do.

May we be granted the grace to forgive others,

For they know not what they do.

Amen.
